Private one-to-one sessions built entirely around you and your dog. The fastest path to results.
One to one dog training is, hands down, the fastest way to get results. No other dogs competing for attention. No waiting your turn in a group. No watered-down advice designed for the lowest common denominator. It's just you, your dog, and an expert trainer who's entirely focused on what your dog needs right now. At Unleashed K9, our 1-2-1 training sessions are the backbone of everything we do, and for good reason. When you want real change, not just participation, private sessions are where it happens.
Every 1-2-1 session at Unleashed K9 is run by a trainer with genuine experience. Not someone who's done a two-week course and now calls themselves a professional. Our team, led by Danny Wells, with senior trainer Robbie, Connor, and Simon, have collectively worked with thousands of dogs. Danny's background includes Channel 4's Death Row Dogs, co-authoring What Your Dog Is Thinking, and over 15 years training everything from anxious rescue dogs to police service animals. When you book a 1-2-1, you're getting that level of expertise directed entirely at your dog.
Whatever your dog needs. That's the whole point of private sessions, there's no fixed syllabus, no pre-set curriculum that every dog gets marched through regardless of what they actually need help with. Your 1-2-1 sessions are built entirely around your dog's issues, your goals, and the pace that works for both of you.
That said, here's what we most commonly work on in one to one dog training sessions:
Every session starts where the last one finished. We track progress, set clear goals for the next session, and give you specific homework to practise between visits. This isn't an hour of entertainment for your dog, it's structured, progressive training that builds on itself week after week.
Between sessions, you'll have your trainer's direct phone number. Got a question about timing? Call. Not sure if you're doing the recall drill correctly? Send a video. Your dog did something unexpected and you want advice? Message us. That level of ongoing support is built into every 1-2-1 programme because we know the work between sessions matters just as much as the session itself. Most trainers send you away and hope for the best. We stay connected and keep you on track.
Everyone. Seriously. Brand new puppy you want to start right? Adolescent dog pushing every boundary? Adult dog that's never had proper training? 1-2-1 sessions are suitable for every age, breed, and experience level.
But private sessions are particularly valuable if:
We also see a lot of clients who start with 1-2-1 sessions and then progress into our group sessions or Good Behaviour Class once their dog has the skills and confidence to thrive in a group environment. Private training builds the foundation; group work proofs it in the real world.
Fast. That's the short answer. One to one dog training delivers results quicker than any other format because every second of the session is working on your dog's specific needs. There's no dead time while other people's dogs are being worked with. There's no generic warm-up that doesn't apply to your situation.
Most clients see a visible difference in their dog's behaviour within the first session. That's not an exaggeration, it's the basis of our money-back guarantee on the Initial Assessment. If you don't see improvement, you don't pay.
In terms of the overall programme:
We usually recommend weekly sessions for the first 4-6 weeks to build momentum, then dropping to fortnightly as your confidence and skills develop. But there's no lock-in, no minimum commitment, and no pressure. You book when you're ready, and we'll tell you honestly when we think you don't need us anymore.
Because we actually train the owner as much as the dog. Here's the uncomfortable truth that most trainers won't say out loud: your dog's behaviour issues are, at least partly, a result of how you're handling them. That doesn't mean you're a bad owner. It means nobody has shown you how to communicate clearly with your dog. That's exactly what we do in 1-2-1 sessions.
Every session includes hands-on owner coaching. We don't just demonstrate what to do and hand you the lead, we watch you do it, correct your timing, adjust your technique, and make sure you can replicate everything at home. Your trainer will be direct with you. If your lead handling is sloppy, we'll say so. If your timing is off, we'll fix it. If you're being too soft or too harsh, we'll tell you. We're not here to make you feel good about a bad walk, we're here to give you the skills to have a good one.
You'll also have your trainer's direct phone number. Between sessions, if something comes up or you're unsure about anything, you can call or message. That kind of access makes a massive difference to your progress, and it's included in every 1-2-1 programme.
And the facility matters. Brandreth House Farm gives us the space to work in varied environments, open fields, enclosed areas, around controlled distractions, so your dog's training gets proofed in conditions that mirror real life. Combined with general obedience drills and real-world exposure, 1-2-1 sessions at Unleashed K9 deliver something you can't get in a village hall or a park car park.
We also structure our 1-2-1 programmes to evolve as your dog progresses. The first few sessions might be focused entirely on lead skills and engagement. As those improve, we introduce recall work, distance commands, and more challenging distractions. By the later sessions, we're proofing everything in environments that would have been unthinkable at the start. That progressive approach means you never plateau, every session moves you forward, and every session is different enough to keep both you and your dog engaged and challenged.
Many of our 1-2-1 clients eventually transition into group sessions to test their skills around other dogs, or explore specialist programmes like e-collar training for advanced off-lead control. The beauty of starting with private sessions is that you build a rock-solid foundation that makes everything else easier. Whatever direction your training takes, 1-2-1 sessions are where it all begins.

Your trainer is assigned based on your dog's needs and the team's availability. All our trainers, Danny, Robbie, Connor, and Simon, work to the same high standard and methodology. You'll typically stay with the same trainer throughout your programme for consistency.
Bring your dog on whatever equipment you normally use, same lead, same harness, same treats if you use them. We want to see your normal setup and adjust from there. Wear comfortable shoes and be prepared to move around.
